Oath taking of the Board of Directors 1981 at Max Q.C. with guests

How did you get involved with the dog club?
I had some friends who had GSDs and they invited me to a dog show in San Beda. So I went and I got interested.
I was introduced to Mr. Aramis Lim and Mrs. Norma Lim. From then on, because of our friendship, they involved
me in the dog activities. I got my first Poodle from Mr. & Mrs. Lim.

How would you say the difference between the first dog show that you attended
and the dog show that we are conducting these days?
Totally, there is a very, very great improvement today. It is run more professionally. Before, the handlers did not
know what they were doing. There were no professional handlers before.

Do you show your own dogs?

No, my houseboys did. From then on, I was involved with the affairs of the club.
I met Mr. Mariano Zamora. At the time that I became a member, Mr. Mariano Zamora was the president. He had
Great Danes. Some cousins of my late husband bought Great Danes from him. I went to his kennel and I saw
how well it was run. I kept on going to the dog shows whenever there is a show. I met Mr. Roberto Castanos who
became the Secretary during that time. The PCCI office used to be in the house of Ms. Hannaford for a time.
When she went to the United States, our offices were in an apartment building along Quirino Avenue owned by
the family of Mr. Eliseo Alorro who was the president of the club during that time. I was elected as Treasurer. Then,
the club wanted to have contacts with other clubs. Since I was going to Japan for a tourist visit to a friend sometime
in 1972 or 1973, I called the Japan Kennel Club and introduced myself. It was difficult then to understand each
other until I finally met Mr. Kazuo Igarashi. He was the handler of the Hadleigh Pomeranians. He speaks English
because he used to handle dogs in England. So we were able to invite Japanese Judges. The first JKC judge to judge
the PCCI show was Mr. Igarashi who then became a friend of Dr. Jose Mendiola (who for sometime also served
        as PCCI president).
