What is the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI)? The Fédération Cynologique Internationale is the World Canine Organisation. It is composed of 86 members and contract partners (one member per country) that each issue their own pedigrees and train their own judges. The FCI recognizes 343 breeds. “Owner” countries (where the breeds come from) set the standard in cooperation with FCI’s Standards and Scientific Commissions. These standards are the reference by which breeders produce top-quality dogs, and the judges’ assessment of shows held in FCI member countries.
Every member country conducts international shows (conformation shows) as well as working or hunting trials and tests, and races and coursing. Results are sent to the FCI office where they are processed. When a dog has been awarded a certain number of awards, it is eligible to receive the title of International Beauty, Show or Working Champion. These titles are confirmed by the FCI.
